The Senior Editor, Energy Finance is an experienced journalist and editor responsible for coverage of the energy sector, capital markets and investment content, essentially tracking the dollars that go into and out of the industry. This senior-level position will follow quarterly earnings, financial filings, investment and IPO trends, ESG evolution, carbon management spending, private equity activity, regulatory impacts, and more from the oil and gas wellheads to the services sector, midstream infrastructure and beyond. This individual connects the oilfields to Wall Street, covering capital spending, employment trends, executive salaries and much more.

The candidate will primarily be responsible for producing digital exclusives for HartEnergy.com, including breaking news reports, energy investment trends and in-depth features with financial advisers, CEOs and other dealmakers. This position will compile, edit and add coverage to Oil and Gas Investor magazine.

The Senior Editor reports to the Editorial Director and maintains the Hart Energy brand going into its 50th anniversary.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Work closely with the editorial director and managing editors on daily and long-term news and content planning and strategies.
  • Generate high-level content for company products across digital and print platforms with a primary focus on HartEnergy.com and digital newsletters.
  • Help advise and create content for the annual Energy Capital Conference.
  • Assist in conference agenda planning, speaker recruitment, conference moderating and coverage at company events.
  • Be comfortable as a face of Hart Energy in energy and finance markets and have the ability to travel to industry events and to visit with potential sources.
  • Use SEO best practices in news headlines and articles for optimizing online readership.
  • Stays attuned to readers' interest and needs through a variety of methods including focus groups, surveys, conferences and collaboration with other staff members.
  • Learn Hart Energy's mapping and analytics software at RexTag for digital mapping and content to supplement online news.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) in the relevant fields of study.
  • Preferred minimum of five years of journalism and editing experience.
  • Preferred experience in online news and digital newsletters.
  • Collaboration, teamwork and advanced planning are critical to putting together the industry-leading multimedia hub on HartEnergy.com.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, meet deadlines and handle work-related stress.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may sometimes include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain a professional atmosphere for employees, clients and customers.
  • Experience covering the energy sector is considered a plus.
